My husband and I have been married for over 13 years. They have been beautiful, wonderful, joy filled years. Sounds great doesn’t it? Well, here is where this wonderful marriage went south.

The Whole Snore-y

The day of our 12th wedding anniversary arrived, and I was all a-flutter with anticipation for the coming evening. What did Aaron have planned? Did he buy me something shiny and expensive? Did he make a special dinner or make reservations at my favorite restaurant? I was so excited about celebrating our 12th year together.

Up until then the years had been great. There were few problems that my husband and I couldn’t deal with. We were one of the lucky couples that continued to have a spark well past the first 2 years of marriage. Every night of our marriage we would snuggle up together, lie in each others arms, and fall into blissful sleep. The night of our 12th wedding anniversary was the beginning of the end of blissful nights. I was soon to be the sufferer or my husband’s snoring problem.

That night, after a delicious dinner and a glorious massage, we went to bed and fell asleep in each others arms. Approximately 15 minutes after my husband dosed off, the rumbling began. It started out as a low rumbling in his chest, which I quickly chalked up to his slight digestive problems. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a digestive problem; it was the initial step in what was to be a serious snoring problem.

From Snuggling to Snoring Problem

Once I realized that the rumbling in his chest was actually coming from his nose, I was scared. After 12 years of marriage you would think that I would have experienced everything I was going to experience with this man. Instead of waking him up, I continued to let him sleep so that I could gauge the depth of his snoring problem.

At first, the snoring problem wasn’t so bad, but after another hour of deep rumbling the snores turned to all out house rattling snores. I couldn’t take anymore; I shook my husband awake and told him that he had been snoring. Of course he didn’t believe me, but I was adamant about it.

I convinced him that he had developed a snoring problem and that he needed to go out the next day and find some way to fix it so that I could get some sleep. He agreed and went back to sleep. He snored the rest of the night, and I didn’t sleep well.

All of this to say that just because you’ve been married for 12 years doesn’t mean that you will spend that the rest of your life snore free. It can come without warning and seriously ruin a snuggling session.
